saturday bloody saturday

I began the day by riding the 33 chainsaw bike. I found out that I was right removing the hand clutch allowed for more tension and the bike just hums along. It has better pickup than the 42cc but lacks the top end speed. It also doesn't seem as beefy.

I had to rewire the kill switch. Seems some of the wire got into the fan blades. But now the 33 bike is a good ride. Suicide clutch and all. The big 42bike also has a suicide clutch. The only bike I have with a hand clutch is the china bike.

I put gas in the reinstalled tank on the 31 bike and it leaked of course. I just stuffed some jb weld into and hope it seals. If not I have a different tank I can shove on it.

I'm using 5minute jb weld I plan to let it cure an hour at least. I want to ride the 31bike because it is on that full suspension frame. It should be interesting.

control, who the hell is in control

I spend the day working on the suspension bike. Everything I did changed the geometry and there for the distances and that changed the throttle and clutch cables. It was miserable and just when I thought I might have it whipped the gas tank started to leak, So at this moment the original tank which I relocated is drying. As is the jB Weld and sand. I removed the hand clutch because it was causing the drive wheel to skip. It's suicide clutch all the way.

I also removed the hand lever from the 42bike it made a world of difference there as well. That bike had miserable pick up but the top end is great. Once it gets up speed it will climb hills under power and is still accelerating on one of my test hills. I am going to give it a real test one day soon.

not 2 bad

I got most of the bike parts moved on the suspension bike. It wasn't nearly as much trouble as I expected. It required some re engineering, but it was relatively easy. Shoes will be happy to know that I am using cable lifts for the engine. I wanted to use rods but it just didn't work out...

Tomorrow I'm going to take it for a test spin, then I'm going to coat the drive wheel.

For the first time I used a chain link fence stretcher bar to make my own engine mount parts. It is cheap and strong in short lengths. At least that is how it seems at the moment.

Gonna give it a try

I think I will ride the front wheel drive bike today. I need to work on the 42cc bike's drive wheel again, the let it sit a day. The 33bike is ready to go best I can tell. I would like to put some time in with the front wheel drive. It actually has the best control system. Except that it has no front wheel brake. I am a little concerned about a rear brake failure. It would leave me trying to get the bike stopped the best way I could. I might just rig an emergency brake for the bike somehow.

not a good day

I redid the 42's clutch twice and still am not happy with it. Still I think I can make it work. It skips a little as well. I am going a sand and jb weld jacket now for it. if that doesn't work then I'm pretty sure it's an acceleration problem not a drive problem.

I couldn't wait

I couldnt wait for the roads to get completely dry. I took the 42cc out for a spin on a more or less wet road. Even on the wet road it pulled some. I would also skip so I had to keep the throttle down but it did pull. Just a little more information to add to the growing body of knowledge about friction drive.

revised plan

It rained like hell overnight. I need to make a revised plan but I won't know much till I get my butt moving. For some reason I can't make that happen just yet. I think I might just go down feed the pack (two dogs) and make a plan not to plan today.

I do want to ride the big bike today while the 33cc's performance is still fresh in my mind. I'm thinking the 42cc might be better for pulling the trailer if I have to buy groceries.

I also think I will list the China Girl craig's list today. It can't hurt if I don't get a buyer I can relist it in the spring.
